DardaCats
Talking Tool
Toy Development & Design, Brand Development & Design, 2020
In response to the August 4, Beirut port explosion, I was asked to design a soft toy to help comfort the children affected by the blast. The aim was to offer more than physical comfort. While hugging a soft toy can be calming, emotional recovery often begins with conversation. DardaCats is both a soft companion and a hand puppet, encouraging children to express difficult feelings or ask questions that they might otherwise keep to themselves. It also supports caregivers in initiating gentle conversations around topics that may otherwise be difficult to discuss.
DardaCats’ simple soft shape is designed to be approachable and huggable. Its big friendly eyes and easy to use mouth invites communication even for tiny hands with basic motor skills.
DardaCats was developed through the collaboration of a local Lebanese community of craftsmen, psychologists, child activists, and small businesses.
Material: 100% organic cotton for a soft texture. Heavily stuffed with hypoallergenic polyester fiber for a firm, grounding feel.
